Green roofs (also called living roofs, brown roofs, eco roofs, sedum roofs, turfed roofs, grass roofs, vegetative roofs and biodiverse roofs!) are designed to provide a range of benefits that enhance the efficiency and ecological performance of the building.
As we become more aware of our impact on the environment, we begin to think about how we may make a positive difference. A green roof has beneficial effects on biodiversity, energy consumption, contributes towards mitigating climate change, and reduces Urban Heat Island Effect caused by human activity. A green roof also provides a habitat for various flora and fauna.
At Bowmarsh Roofing we are installing an increasing amount of green roofs, as people come to appreciate that they are technically excellent roofs as well as being eco-friendly. The vegetation (which can vary to suit the surroundings) is complemented by a guaranteed waterproof roof system comprising felt, single ply membrane or liquid plastics.
